For those with a loved one with a substance use disorder, the main thing that parents and caregivers need to know is that they play a crucial role in recovery. Addiction is called a “family disease” for a good reason – this disease not only affects everyone, but the family and caregivers must look at their own behavior and attitudes. And when those start to change, that can open up a space for the person struggling to begin their recovery.
Rosman shares about the journey he went on when his own daughter was spiraling down with addictive substances. He shares his initial feelings of denial, fear, and being unable to set boundaries, and how that all turned around as he put down the microscope and picked up the mirror. His daughter is now over five years substance free and thriving.
Mark talks about how his personal transformation took place, the growth steps he learned, and how he put those steps into action to help his daughter and his own recovery. He also speaks about how his experiences directing many top Hollywood films taught him some vital tools that he uses in his daily life as a father and storyteller. And his talk wraps up with an exciting sneak peek into the making of his newest film “Keep Coming Back” which will be the first film ever to focus on the family’s crucial role in recovery.
